MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP
Next week, Members will return home for another District Work Period. I’m disappointed that we are returning to our districts without bringing a jobs bill, such as the currency manipulation bill, to the Floor. The currency manipulation bill will hold other countries accountable for engaging in currency manipulation and ensure our businesses have a level playing field. The Senate passed it with bipartisan support this week, and it received strong, bipartisan support in the House last Congress.
Instead, Republicans wasted time and taxpayer dollars this week considering partisan bills to roll back critical clean air protections. These bills not only endanger our health and environment, but economists say that they will not create jobs or help our economy anytime soon. Republicans also wasted time and taxpayer dollars by considering a bill that puts women’s health at risk, which no one believes will help our economy.
Democrats remain focused on job creation and economic growth. We want to advance the currency manipulation bill, and other bills included in our Make It In America plan - a plan to support job creation by providing an environment for businesses to innovate and make products here in the U.S. I hope when we return from our District Work Period, Republicans will get serious about job creation and work with Democrats to pass the currency manipulation bill and other legislation to help put more Americans back to work, boost our economy and ensure that more families can make it in America.
