This week, Congressional leaders met with the President to discuss a path forward to ensure we pay America’s bills and reduce the deficit. We must take action quickly, which is why we will be meeting at the White House again on Sunday, and the House has canceled its previously scheduled district work period the week of July 18th. I hope that Republicans will work with us to reach a balanced deal to reduce the deficit that includes both spending cuts and revenues, and prevent America from defaulting on its bills. By doing so, we will put our country in a better fiscal situation, which will help strengthen our economy and contribute to a better environment for job creation.

Growing the economy and creating jobs remain a top priority for Democrats. Today’s jobs report showed that we must remain focused on getting Americans back to work, which is why Democrats continue to push our Make It In America agenda. This agenda is a plan to support job creation by providing an encouraging environment for businesses to innovate and make products here in the U.S. While one of our Make It In America bills passed the House last week, Republicans did not take action on jobs this week, they aren’t taking up any jobs bills next week, and they still have not put forward a comprehensive plan to create jobs. I hope that moving forward they will work with us on our agenda to create jobs, boost American competitiveness and help ensure the middle class can Make It In America.

Sincerely yours,

Steny H. Hoyer
