The Daily Quote

“Just look at names of the 50-odd laws passed so far by the 113th Congress—the least productive on record: They say pretty much all you need to know about the body’s diminished ambitions…Congress has always, of course, passed silly laws. The problem is that, with rare exceptions like the renewal of the Violence Against Women Act and a bill on student loans, it is no longer passing serious ones. Overall, it’s been a dismal year on Capitol Hill, with a failure to pass once-routine appropriations bills, culminating in October’s 16-day partial government shutdown, hitting taxpayers with an estimated $2 billion in direct costs and billions more indirectly.”
