Possible Consideration of H.Res. 221 – Martial Law Authority Rule – Waiving clause 6(a) of Rule XIII (requiring a two-thirds vote to consider a Rule on the same day it is reported from the Rules Committee) (Rep. Sessions – Rules) (One Hour of Debate). This resolution waives the requirement of a two-thirds vote to consider a rule on the same day it is reported from the Rules Committee. This would apply to any resolution reported through the legislative day of March 27, 2017.
The Rule also allows for Suspension Authority through the legislative day of March 26, 2017.
The Rules committee rejected a motion by Mr. Polis of Colorado to strike the blanket waiver of clause 6(a) of rule XIII and instead restrict the same-day, martial law authority to H.R. 1628 – “TrumpCare”. Members are urged to VOTE NO.
Further information regarding the schedule, including consideration of H.R. 1628 – “TrumpCare,” will be announced as soon as it becomes available.
|The Daily Quote|
"The House bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act faced an uncertain fate on Wednesday… On the eve of the crucial vote, party leaders appeared to be short of a majority and were working into the night to whip their members into line… Representative Charlie Dent, Republican of Pennsylvania and a leader of a moderate bloc of lawmakers known as the Tuesday Group, said late Wednesday night that he would oppose the bill. ‘I believe this bill… will lead to the loss of coverage and make insurance unaffordable for too many Americans, particularly for low-to-moderate income and older individuals,’ Mr. Dent said.”
