Whip's Report E-Newsletter ● Congress
For Immediate Release:
February 14, 2014

I’m pleased that this week Congress passed legislation to ensure that America can pay its bills, providing certainty and stability for our nation’s economy and businesses.  While I’m glad House Republicans stopped playing political games and allowed us to take action, I’m disappointed that the overwhelming majority of Republicans failed to vote with Democrats to pass this critical legislation.  I hope Republicans will stop holding our nation’s fiscal credibility hostage to partisan politics in the future.

Also this week, I joined House Democrats at the annual Democratic Issues Conference where we discussed our legislative priorities for the upcoming year.  In addition to providing long-term fiscal sustainability, House Democrats will continue urging Republicans to take action on renewing unemployment insurance, raising the minimum wage, and passing comprehensive immigration reform.  Taking action on these critical issues would create jobs, benefit the economy, and help middle class American families striving to reach the middle class. When Congress returns from the President’s Day district work period, I hope that Republicans will agree to work towards bipartisan compromise on these issues to create more opportunities for our people and move our economy and country forward.

Sincerely yours,

P.S. Please invite your friends and family to sign up for this newsletter to learn about what House Democrats are doing to lead America in a new direction. You can also get the latest updates and join the conversation on my Facebook and twitter accounts.
