THE LEADER'S REPORT: WEEK OF JUNE 28, 2010

The House just completed a very productive work period in which we passed Wall Street reform, campaign finance reform, legislation to help small businesses by promoting lending from community banks to small businesses, a one-year budget that cuts spending below the President’s request and recommits to fiscal responsibility, a bill to impose sanctions on Iran, funding for our troops, and legislation to continue our emergency response efforts in the Gulf region as a result of the BP Gulf oil spill.

 

This week, Democrats continued working to protect middle class Americans and hold Wall Street accountable by passing a bill that takes us one step closer to ensuring that we won’t have another financial meltdown like the one in 2008 that hurt so many American families.  I urge the Senate to take action on this bill so that we can send it to the President’s desk very soon.

 

Today's jobs report bought mixed news, and was another reminder that American families are still struggling in this uncertain economic climate. Democrats will continue working to do everything possible to create jobs and grow the economy.  I’m disappointed that Republicans, so far, have refused to join us in that effort.

 

Over the next week, Members will be back in their districts to observe Independence Day and talk with their constituents about how Democrats are working to create jobs for the middle class.  The House will return for legislative business on July 13th.
