Continue consideration of H.R. 2055 - Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2012 (Rep. Culberson – Appropriations) H.R. 2055 appropriates approximately $143 billion for the Veterans’ Affairs Department, VA programs and military construction. The funding level is slightly higher than the current funding level but approximately $1 billion below the President’s budget request.
On Thursday, June 2, the House adopted a unanimous consent agreement which provided for the bill to be considered open from pages 1-60. Any amendments to that portion of the bill need to be offered at 2:00 p.m., today.
Any Members that have amendments to later portions of the bill also need to be ready to offer their amendments as early as 2:00 p.m. It is expected that an amendment offered by Rep LaTourette, relating to project labor agreements (PLA), will be offered this afternoon. There are no recorded votes pending at this time.
H.Res. 288 , the Rule for H.R. 2055, required that upon completion of consideration of all amendments, the Chair shall put the question on retaining Title II (Department of Veterans Affairs) prior to putting the question on engrossment and third reading. It is expected that the vote on Title II, as well as any postponed recorded votes on amendments will be voted on this evening.
TOMORROW’S OUTLOOK
The GOP Leadership has announced the following schedule for Tuesday, June 14: The House will meet at 12:00 p.m. for legislative business. The House is expected to begin consideration of H.R. 2112 – Agriculture, Rural Development, Food & Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2012 (Rep. Kingston – Appropriations) (Subject to a Rule).
