“Mr. Speaker, I rise once again to call on Congress to replace the dangerous and irrational sequester with a big and balanced deficit solution

This week, House Republicans are once again putting the U.S. at risk of defaulting on its obligations, and another downgrade of our credit rating. The “Pay China First” bill that Republicans are bringing to the House Floor this week is not a real solution to our nation’s fiscal situation.  

“The jobs numbers released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that, while our recovery continues, Congress still must do more to address job creation.

“In selecting Penny Pritzker as his nominee to be our next Secretary of Commerce, President Obama has tapped a talented and experienced individual who is committed to making sure U.S. businesses can compete and succeed in the global marketplace.

“During Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we celebrate the many contributions to our national life by a vibrant community with a proud history.

I have been privileged to serve alongside my friend, Mel Watt, for the past twenty years, and I congratulate him on his nomination to be our next Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).

“This morning’s GDP report by the Bureau of Economic Analysis that our economy grew by 2.5% during the first quarter of 2013 demonstrates the resilience of the American economy in the face of continued uncertainty.
