Well, I certainly think [Speaker Ryan] will be different [than Speaker Boehner]. I think, as he pointed out, he is a movement conservative, more ideological than John Boehner, very enthusiastic, and perhaps not as wisened as John Boehner was because [Boehner] went through some of the battles.

Madam Speaker, this agreement represents a bipartisan effort to prevent a catastrophic default and lessen the chance of a government shutdown in December.  Lessens the chance – it doesn't preclude it.

Speaker Boehner and I, as some would note, do not always agree. We've been on opposite sides on this Floor and opposite sides of debate many times. However, that is behind us for John Boehner. In all the years I’ve served with him, Speaker Boehner has shown me the same kindness, grace, and friendship that he's shown [to] so many of this House, its colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

Well I think he's, obviously, what everybody knows is, he’s very bright, very hardworking, very issue-focused, and I think can be an outstanding leader of the House. But there's a big if, of course. In order to be an outstanding leader, you’ve got to have outstanding followers, and the problem Republicans have had is they're a deeply divided party and have rendered their leadership dysfunctional.

The American public ought to know that 147 Republicans voted to re-authorize the Export-Import Bank just a few years ago under the leadership of [former Majority Leader] Mr. cantor and myself.
