I am very disappointed in yesterday’s decision by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to continue preventing the implementation of the President’s DAPA and expanded DACA programs to keep immigrant families together, which I believe does not reflect clear legal precedent that support the Administration’s actions.

This Sunday marks the fiftieth anniversary of President Johnson signing the Higher Education Act into law.  That landmark legislation, part of the President’s ‘Great Society’ initiative, made significant federal investment in our nation’s colleges and universities, with the goal of helping more students access quality, affordable higher education that leads to good jobs and a more competitive workforce.

Today’s jobs report ought to be received as welcome news, with the economy adding 268,000 private sector jobs last month and the unemployment rate falling to 5.0% - the lowest since April 2008.

Today, I was proud to join bipartisan majorities in the House in voting overwhelmingly to condemn the recent violent attacks against Israelis and to encourage the Obama Administration to work with European nations to combat anti-Semitism on that continent.

As a result of our strongly unified effort, House Democrats earned a major victory for American businesses and workers last week by discharging and passing the Export-Import Bank reauthorization bill (H.R. 597) with a bipartisan vote of 313-118.

Madam Speaker, this agreement represents a bipartisan effort to prevent a catastrophic default and lessen the chance of a government shutdown in December.  Lessens the chance – it doesn't preclude it.

Speaker Boehner and I, as some would note, do not always agree. We've been on opposite sides on this Floor and opposite sides of debate many times. However, that is behind us for John Boehner. In all the years I’ve served with him, Speaker Boehner has shown me the same kindness, grace, and friendship that he's shown [to] so many of this House, its colleagues on both sides of the aisle.
