Prescription Drug and Medicare Privatization Conference Report

As Republicans finalize a prescription drug conference report without the participation of House Democratic conferees, it is important to remember that House Democrats have a voting record to be proud of on this issue.  When it comes to fighting for seniors, disabled Americans, and health care providers, Democrats have repeatedly voted for alternatives that are far superior to the Republican proposals.

Please see the attached materials to help you speak proactively on what Democrats are fighting for in a prescription drug bill and what we will stand against on behalf of seniors:

Energy Conference Report

The House is expected to consider the Energy Conference Report on the Floor next week.  Democrats have been completely shut out of negotiations on this conference report despite the fact that poll after poll shows that the United States is a fifty-fifty nation, and Democrats control nearly half the seats in both the House and Senate.  Today's announcement that a deal has been reached on energy legislation is a perfect example of an arrogant Republican leadership once again shutting Democrats - and the 130 million Americans we represent - out of deliberations on the most important issues facing our nation.

Attached is information on the Energy Conference Report and the process in which it was written:

  • Dear Colleague from Energy and Commerce Ranking Democrat John Dingell
  • Talking points on the Energy Conference Report from the Office of the Democratic Leader
  • Recent Editorials on the Energy Conference Report from newspapers around the country

Omnibus Appropriations Conference Report

Republican Leaders started the year off with an omnibus appropriations bill and are ending the year with an omnibus appropriations bill.   They have failed to garner majority support for many items on their extreme agenda so they are now forced to throw together an omnibus bill to push through controversial items such as the proposed rule change that would eliminate overtime for millions of American workers.
