Once again, the House Republican Leadership has announced an extremely light schedule for the House Floor. This weak schedule is indicative of what the American people can expect of the GOP controlled Congress this year.
As one aide to Speaker Hastert was quoted as saying earlier this year in Roll Call [1/5/04]: “I don’t think anyone believes this is going to be an ambitious legislative session.”
Meanwhile, unemployment remains stubbornly high, job growth is sluggish at best, health care costs continue to skyrocket, schools are struggling and the deficit is set to balloon. And Congress is poised to do nothing to confront the pressing issues facing America.
Thomas also has links to the total number of legislative days for each session of Congress for the last few decades.
