Below is a transcript of the video:
“Three years ago, House Democrats introduced a comprehensive jobs plan with a focus on reinvigorating our manufacturing sector. Our Make It In America plan rests on a simple but powerful premise: if we can encourage more businesses to make their products here, the jobs and opportunities they create will help more of our people ‘make it’ in America.
“The key to a strong and secure economy for the twenty-first century is manufacturing. Manufacturing jobs have traditionally driven our economy forward, paying higher wages and leading to the middle-class opportunities that sustain our American Dream.
“And, over the past three years, a handful of Make It In America bills have been signed into law with bipartisan support, including patent reform, export assistance, and investments in job training. But there is much work left to do.
“I’ve met with many leading figures in business, labor, and entrepreneurship since we first laid out our plan. When I ask them what Congress ought to do to help our manufacturing sector grow, I hear the same four answers over and over again. And those four answers are now the four key components of our Make It In America plan for 2013.
- Adopt and pursue a national manufacturing strategy;
- Promote the export of US goods;
- Encourage businesses to bring jobs and innovation back to the US; &
- Train and secure a skilled, twenty-first century workforce.
“This week, I am joining with many of my House Democratic colleagues to unveil a number of Make It In America bills in these four areas that we believe not only will grow manufacturing but will also have the greatest chance of drawing bipartisan support. Democrats remain focused on making sure Congress is working to create jobs and grow our economy now and over the long term.
“I hope you will visit Democraticwhip.gov and click on ‘Make It In America’ to learn more about our 'Make It In America' jobs plan and how it will move us forward in these four critical areas.
“By making progress on jobs and manufacturing, we can strengthen our economy, grow our middle class, and help secure the American Dream for another generation. Thank you.”
