WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) today announced staff changes in his leadership office.  Hoyer has hired James Leuschen as Senior Policy Advisor, replacing Ed Lorenzen, who will be joining the Peter G. Peterson Foundation as a Senior Policy Advisor to the CEO.  In addition, Hoyer also announced the promotion of Shuwanza Goff to Floor Aide.

In acknowledging the departure of Ed Lorenzen, Hoyer said: “I want to thank Ed Lorenzen for his years of service to my office and the Democratic Caucus.  He is a tireless worker, and the Peter G. Peterson Foundation is fortunate to have someone with his outstanding expertise.”

Leader Hoyer praised the addition of a new staff member and the promotion of a current staff member: “I am pleased to welcome James Leuschen to the Majority Leader’s office, as well as announce the promotion of Shuwanza Goff, who has been a valued member of my staff over the last two years.  These individuals bring extensive experience and knowledge to their new positions, and will be great assets both within this office and throughout the entire Democratic Caucus.”

James Leuschen joins Hoyer’s staff as Senior Policy Advisor, focusing on budget, tax, and economic issues.  He served most recently as Legislative Director for Rep. Jim Cooper, and previously in the office of Rep. Diana DeGette.  James holds a bachelor’s degree from Creighton University and a master’s from the University of Chicago.

Leader Hoyer also promoted Shuwanza Goff to Floor Aide where she will assist the Majority Leader’s Floor team in managing the House Floor.  Shuwanza served as staff assistant in the Majority Leader’s office for the past two years, after earning a master’s degree from American University in justice, law and society and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Tennessee.
