MESSAGE FROM THE MAJORITY LEADER

This week, House Democrats advanced our “Make It In America” agenda, which aims to create jobs and increase manufacturing, by passing the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act. It will expand lending to millions of small businesses and offer tax incentives to help small businesses grow and create jobs, without adding to the deficit. The bill will also promote small business exports to help small businesses compete in the global economy. This bill is now on its way to President Obama for his signature.

Next week, the House will continue our work on the “Make It In America” agenda by taking up legislation to address China’s undervaluation of its currency.  China has taken steps toward reform, but their currency is not appreciating quickly enough.  And while we would prefer a multinational approach, we will not wait any longer to protect manufacturing jobs.  We know that with a level playing field, American businesses can compete – and succeed.

We will also take up legislation providing medical care and compensation to the heroes of 9/11 – the firefighters, first responders, and workers involved in rescue and recovery operations, some of whom have faced health problems as a result.  I hope Republicans choose not to play politics, and stand with us to give this bill the bipartisan vote it deserves.

Sincerely yours,

Steny H. Hoyer
