MESSAGE FROM THE MAJORITY LEADER

This week, the House returned to session after a District Work Period where House Democrats held over 2,000 events with their constituents, talking about our work to move the country forward by creating jobs and strengthening the economy.

As part of our effort to boost the economy, Democrats are working to increase American manufacturing. This week, the House passed three bills as part of our “Make It In America” agenda. The Congressional Made In America Promise Act requires Congress to purchase products made in America, and the Berry Amendment Extension Act requires the Department of Homeland Security to purchase clothing and textiles made in America. Both bills received strong, bipartisan support.  We also passed the Rural Energy Savings Program Act, which establishes loans that help families make their homes, farms, and businesses more energy efficient. This will help people save money on energy bills while creating American manufacturing and installation jobs in the process.

Next week we will stay focused on jobs and the economy.  We will take action on the Small Business Lending Act, passed by the Senate this week, which will increase lending to small businesses so that they can expand and add jobs. We also plan to bring additional Make It In America bills to the Floor.

Sincerely yours,

Steny H. Hoyer
