MESSAGE FROM THE MAJORITY LEADER

Over the course of the past week, Congress has demonstrated that we are truly committed to leading and governing effectively, and have now passed four provisions of our 100 hours agenda. We have increased the security of our nation by passing the 9/11 commission recommendations, and we have given millions of Americans a fair chance at success by raising the minimum wage. Yesterday, we approved an expansion of stem cell research, and today, we passed legislation to allow the government to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors and people with disabilities.

Next week, we will consider the final two provisions of the 100 Hours agenda: cutting interest rates on student loans to make college more affordable, and repealing subsidies for oil companies and investing that savings in renewable energy.  All six pieces of legislation enjoy bipartisan support, and all will produce real results for the American people.

This is truly the People's House, and I remain committed to representing your needs and interests.  This Congress will stand up for the people, and these first 100 hours are just the beginning.

Sincerely yours,
Steny H. Hoyer
