The Leader's Report: Week of February 26, 2007
March 2, 2007
|
Yesterday, I introduced the Program for Real Energy Security, or PROGRESS Act, a bill that aims to make America energy independent and fight global warming. The provisions in this bill could be among the first steps this Democratic Congress will take to put our country on the path to energy independence, which will increase our national, economic, and environmental security. The PROGRESS Act continues the effort to move our nation's energy policy in a new direction.
Also this week, the People's House continued the work we began with the 100 Hours Agenda to make this nation safer and put the American Dream within everyone's reach. On Wednesday, we passed the National Security First Act, which strengthens national security by making changes to the foreign investment review process. The next day we passed the Employee Free Choice Act, which establishes fairness in the workplace by providing workers the choice to bargain for better wages, benefits and work conditions.
Next week the House will continue to focus on preserving the environment and protecting our communities with votes on three bills that will promote clean, healthy water.
