Joining Growing Chorus, Senate Republicans Call For Budget Conference

Looks like it’s not just Democrats calling for a return to ‘regular order’ in the budget process.  Today, POLITICO highlights several prominent Republican Senators who are joining Democrats in calling for action to complete work on a budget:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.): “I’m very much in favor of it, and I think we ought to do it right away.”

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.): “I’m OK with it going now.”

Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.): “I’ve always been in favor of regular order.”

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.): “There is value to regular order.”

Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.): “I think we need to go to conference… I would very much like to see a conference.”

So what’s the hold up? POLITICO explains:

“The blocking in the Senate is largely an effort to protect House Republicans from being forced into taking uncomfortable votes from Democrats.”

Here’s a thought – maybe they wouldn’t be uncomfortable if they were doing what the American people wanted.

In the meantime, we’re happy to welcome our Senate Republican friends to the growing chorus calling for action.
