WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Committee, which overturns the ban on corporate contributions to election campaigns:

“Today’s Supreme Court decision is a departure from precedent, tilting the playing field for corporations at the expense of individual Americans.  The implications are large.   American citizens will be at a disadvantage in our political process, which does not serve our democracy well.

“Congress has no choice but to act.  This is a chance for Democrats and Republicans to work together and restore democracy to the people.”
