WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor released their jobs report for September:
“Today’s employment report shows that our private sector added 64,000 jobs last month and that our private sector has grown every month of this year. The fact remains that far too many Americans are out of work. However, there has been a change in the right direction from when our economy was losing almost 800,000 jobs per month, which is what President Obama and the 111th Congress confronted when we took office.
“So now the question we face is whether to continue the Democratic policies that averted a second Great Depression and have our private sector returning to growth, or whether to return to what Republicans call the ‘exact same agenda’ of the Bush years, which ended in economic crisis and millions of lost jobs. Democratic will continue to pursue the job-creating Make It In America agenda, a plan to rebuild American manufacturing, stop the outsourcing of jobs, and strengthen the middle class. Republicans, by contrast, have nothing new to offer on the economy—and even ignored the Americans who voted, on Republicans’ own website, to urge Congress to close tax loopholes that encourage corporations to ship American jobs overseas. In fact, it was Democrats, facing near-unanimous Republican opposition, who enacted a law to help stop outsourcing: another demonstration of which party stands with corporations, and which party is fighting for the middle class.”
