WASHINGTON, DC - Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Senate passed a short-term Continuing Resolution and the President asked bipartisan Congressional leadership to meet regarding a compromise:

“Congress has now sent a two-week Continuing Resolution to the President to cut spending and keep the government running. We have now cut $45 billion of the $100 billion that Republicans have set as their goal. Funding government two weeks at a time is inefficient and cannot continue.

"We need to cut and compromise - reducing spending without harming the economy and job creation, or cutting investments in our future. I hope Republicans will agree to meet with us soon so we can reach agreement quickly on the best compromise for the American people.”
