WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on Rosh Hashanah, which begins at sundown on Sunday, September 16:

“Sunday evening, across America and throughout the world, Jewish families will usher in a new year – one that I hope is filled with the blessings of peace and happiness for all.  Rosh Hashanah offers an opportunity to remember the important contributions made to our country by its Jewish community, which has enhanced America in the fields of science, politics, law, entertainment, athletics, and a host of others since the days even before our nation’s independence.

“As the new year of 5773 dawns, my prayers are for the safety and well-being of Jews world-wide, including our Jewish service-members stationed overseas.  I also join in praying for the peace and security of our friend and ally, the Jewish State of Israel.  May all who gather with their families this evening to welcome the new year find it full of sweetness and joy. Shana Tovah U’Metukah.”
