Washington, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah, which begins at sundown on Wednesday night:

“Beginning at sundown tomorrow night, the Jewish community celebrates Rosh Hashanah, which marks the Jewish New Year. It is a time to pause for reflection on the past year, and calls for the renewal of core values as a new year begins.

“As we mark this important holiday, we have the opportunity to honor the numerous contributions that the Jewish community has made to this country. Their focus on community, education, and civil and human rights are values that have inspired Americans of all faiths and all walks of life, and we continue to stand united together in our steadfast support for Israel.

“I extend my warmest wishes to the Jewish community as they celebrate the New Year; may it be joyous, healthy, and peaceful.”
