WASHINGTON, DC – Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer released the following statement on today’s announced resignation of Comptroller General of the United States David Walker:

“As Comptroller General for the last ten years, David Walker has been tireless in his efforts to bring attention to the long-term fiscal challenges we face and in educating both policymakers and the public about the need for greater fiscal responsibility.

“In his dealings with me on fiscal matters, David always has been an honest, very intelligent, and non-partisan straight-shooter who provided strong recommendations and advice based on the facts.

“Although he will no longer be Congress's chief watchdog, I know David will continue to be an effective and indefatigable advocate for strong fiscal stewardship when he joins the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, and will provide not only Congress but the American public with the unvarnished truth about our nation's fiscal challenges.”
