WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in response to House Minority Leader John Boehner’s speech in Ohio this afternoon:
“Today, Minority Leader John Boehner demonstrated to the American people that Republicans have no new ideas, and instead would return to the exact same failed economic policies of the past.  While Democrats have fought for the middle class and small businesses, Republicans continue to stand with big corporate interests instead.  Republicans voted 15 out of 16 times against tax cuts for small businesses that would create jobs.  Republicans ignored Americans who want corporations to stop outsourcing jobs, and instead voted to preserve tax loopholes that encourage sending jobs overseas.  And even now, Republicans are holding tax cuts for the middle class hostage so they can add $700 billion to the deficit on behalf of the wealthy.
“Americans already watched Republicans crash our economy into a ditch, and they don’t want to go back.  They want our country to keep moving forward, and Democrats are working to do just that.”
