WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Obama signed an executive order to streamline the export and import process for U.S. businesses:

“Today, the President took another important step to enhance our economic recovery and help more of our businesses succeed by making it easier for U.S. goods to reach overseas markets.  House Democrats continue to be focused on increasing U.S. exports through our Make It In America jobs plan, which includes measures to make our infrastructure more efficient and enforce trade rules so our workers can compete on a level playing field.

“President Obama can only do so much on his own, and I urge Republicans in Congress to work with the President and Democrats to take legislative action that will promote U.S. exports, which, in turn, helps grow jobs for our workers here at home. The House Republican leadership ought to put Make It In America legislation on the Floor for consideration as soon as possible, especially bills that will invest in freight rail, port, airport, and export assistance projects in order to help American manufacturers sell their products both here and around the world.”
