WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Obama laid out a ‘to do list’ for Congress to help businesses create jobs:

“Today, the President called on Congress to take concrete steps that will help American businesses create jobs that won’t be shipped overseas.  It is very unfortunate that Republicans in control of the House have chosen to shirk their responsibilities by refusing to consider a comprehensive plan for growing jobs.  Moreover, after a year in the majority, they continue to block Democrats’ Make It In America jobs plan.

“The steps President Obama called for today – eliminating tax incentives for companies that ship jobs overseas, cutting red tape so responsible homeowners can refinance at lower rates, providing small businesses with a new tax credit for hiring, investing in clean energy manufacturing, and creating a Veterans Jobs Corps – are either contained in the Make It In America plan or complement it.  Democrats will continue to push for these measures and others that will help put more Americans back to work, provide certainty to businesses so they can invest in expanding, and boost our economic competitiveness for years to come.  I call on House Republicans to look carefully at the President’s to-do list and work with Democrats to pass the legislation we need to help put more Americans back to work.”
