Hoyer Statement on President Obama’s National Network for Manufacturing Innovation

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Obama announced a National Network for Manufacturing Innovation:

“President Obama’s announcement today of a National Network for Manufacturing Innovation represents a major step in our efforts to revitalize manufacturing in this country and remain the world’s innovation leader.  Our recovery and long-term competitiveness will be driven by the same focus on entrepreneurship, innovation, and manufacturing that made America the global economic leader in the twentieth century.  We must continue to take steps now to cultivate the kind of twenty-first century innovation economy America needs to stay ahead of our overseas competitors, and this new network of 15 Institutes of Manufacturing Innovation will help American manufacturers succeed, expand, and create more jobs here at home.

"This initiative is consistent with House Democrats’ Make It In America plan for job creation, which contains a host of provisions that will further help America’s manufacturing sector and enable businesses to invest in research and development, innovate, expand, and increase hiring.  I hope Republicans will work with us on Make It In America so we can help more of our manufacturing businesses compete and succeed.”
