Washington, D.C. – Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House passed the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act (H.R. 847). The bill provides long-term, comprehensive health care and compensation for thousands of first responders and others exposed to the toxins of Ground Zero following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

“Today the House passed the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, a bill to provide care and compensation to the first responders and community residents exposed to toxins related to the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. The heroes of that day—the firefighters, police officers and other responders who came from across the country and rose to the occasion during one of America’s darkest days—deserve our full support.

“I want to thank the New York delegation for all of their hard work to get this bill passed. It is my hope that the Senate takes up this bill quickly in order to provide comprehensive care to all of the heroes of 9/11.”
