WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after the Office of Managment and Budget released its Mid-Session Review today:

“The Mid-Session Review released by the Office of Management and Budget this afternoon shows that the President’s budget proposal for FY2014 continues to be a serious approach to deficit reduction that will put America back on the path to fiscal stability.  With a projected deficit for FY2013 now $200 billion less than was expected when the President released his budget proposal in April, this Administration is making significant progress toward strengthening our economy over the long-term by reducing the federal debt’s share of our economy while investing in job creation and competitiveness over the long-term.

“Congress ought to take advantage of this progress by working to achieve a big, balanced, and bipartisan approach to deficit reduction that can end the irrational sequester and restore certainty to our businesses, markets, and middle-class families.  The best way to do so is by reaching an agreement on a final budget for FY2014 – something that can only be achieved once Speaker Boehner appoints conferees to negotiate with the Senate.  I continue to urge him to do so without further delay – not only for the sake of America’s fiscal health but for all who are still out of work and can wait no longer for Congress to take steps that will encourage private sector job growth.”
