WASHINGTON, DC – Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor released their jobs report for October:

“While I am encouraged that the number of private sector jobs grew by 104,000 over the past month, representing the twentieth straight month of increase and bringing our unemployment rate down to 9.0%, there is still much left for us to do. Too many Americans remain out of work, and Congress ought not waste any more time and consider legislation that will help businesses create jobs right away.

"After watching Senate Republicans block consideration of three separate jobs bills over the past month and House Republicans do essentially nothing to address our jobs crisis for more than 300 days, the American people cannot wait any longer for Congress to act. I hope Senate Republicans will join with Democrats in the days ahead to pass the Vow to Hire American Heroes Act and help our veterans find jobs. Democrats’ Make It In America plan, along with the President’s American Jobs Act proposals, is full of bipartisan ideas to help businesses expand, hire, and compete in the global marketplace. I strongly urge Republicans to move forward on Make It In America or the American Jobs Act or at least to put forward a real plan of their own to create jobs for the middle class and working families.”
