WASHINGTON DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Labor Day, which is Monday, September 6th:

"Today we honor the hard-working men and women who have done so much to make America prosperpus and strong, as well as the ongoing effort to ensure that every American worker is treated with the fairness and dignity he or she deserves. At a time when unemployment, home forclosures, and lack of access to health care have made the American Dream seem out of reach for so many, standing up for working Americans is more important than ever.

"Democrats have worked hard to pass legislation to help build a more secure middle class, from the job-creating Recovery Act, which included tax cuts for 95% of Americans, to health reform, which promises access to affordable health care for all Americans. Democrats also understand the importance of a strong manufacturing sector to American job creation and economic strength. That is why we have focused on the Make it in America agenda: a plan to restore a vibrant and strong American manufacturing base. The House has passed seven Make it in America bills and three have been signed into law.

"As we mark Labor Day, may we take this opportunity to renew our commitment to the success and well-being of all working Americans."
