Hoyer Statement on House Energy Legislation

WASHINGTON, DC –Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Energy and Commerce Committee announced it will begin markup of the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 on Monday, May 18.

“I want to congratulate Chairman Waxman, Chairman Markey and the Members of the Energy and Commerce Committee in reaching consensus on key elements of comprehensive clean energy legislation. With markup scheduled for next week, we are one significant step closer to our goal of passing a bill through committee by Memorial Day.

“Transitioning to clean energy is essential to securing the future of our economy, our environment and our national security. As the process moves forward, we remain focused on achieving this critical objective.”
