WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in honor of Monday's remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"On Monday we celebrate the life and mission of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - a man who answered humanity's highest calling and profoundly transformed the world in which we live.  I am proud to join the American people in rejoicing, remembering and giving thanks to God for the wisdom that Dr. King imparted and the enduring spirit that he shared with all mankind.

"Thanks to his struggle, we've reached great heights as a nation.  But we must not be afraid to accept that we are still far from perfect and that there is still much good work that remains undone.

"On this day of memorial, let each of us make it our mission to honor the legacy of Dr. King by continuing his good work of peace, understanding and brotherhood among all the peoples of this earth."
