Hoyer Statement on GM Decision Allowing Dealers to Reopen Without Arbitration

WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after General Motors announced that more than half of their dealerships that requested arbitration last winter would be allowed to reopen:

“I am pleased to hear that General Motors is giving more than 600 auto dealers the chance to quickly restore dealerships that were closed in the company’s restructuring. Last winter, Congress passed legislation to ensure that closed dealerships would receive fair arbitration, and it is encouraging news that GM is allowing so many dealerships the chance to reopen without arbitration. These actions secure the employment of thousands of workers across America and will help ensure that we have a robust dealer network as our car companies regain their strength. I look forward to seeing dealers reopen in the weeks to come.”
