Hoyer Statement on Federal Employee Pay Parity

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Obama Administration announced it will recommend a one percent pay increase for both military personnel and federal civilian employees:

"I am pleased the Obama Administration is proposing to reestablish the principle of pay parity between military personnel and federal civilian employees, which is a recognition of the critical contributions that both groups make to the defense and well being of our nation. While I believe that the proposed one percent increase needs to examined by Congress to determine if it is adequate, especially for civilian employees who are now in the third year of a pay freeze, this is a crucial first step to restore fairness to the federal pay system for everyone who serves the American people."
