WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the explosions in Boston:

“As we continue to watch events in Boston unfold, my thoughts and prayers are with the victims of today’s attack and their families – as well as with all the people of Boston.  Much information remains unknown, and our first responders are now hard at work securing the scene and providing aid and comfort to the injured while law enforcement agencies begin an investigation to determine who is responsible for this act of terror.

“Today is Patriot’s Day in Massachusetts, celebrating the courage and sacrifice of those who, a year before American Independence, first answered the call to defend Boston against those who would have suppressed liberty and democracy.  As our first responders continue their work in the hours and days ahead, let us be thankful that the values for which the patriots of 1775 placed themselves in harm’s way continue to inspire heroism in our day – along with the determination of the American people, standing together as one, to overcome any challenge.”
