WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on Democrats’ continuing efforts to rein in wasteful spending and restore fiscal responsibility:

“Today’s White House proposal asking government agencies to identify where five percent of their budget can be cut further demonstrates that Democrats’ are the party of fiscal responsibility.  From reforming defense acquisition to PAYGO to the bipartisan Commission to this initiative, Democrats are walking the walk when it comes to making the tough decisions necessary to start reducing the deficit.  Republicans didn’t make the tough choices when they were in charge, instead running up huge deficits, and have yet to offer serious proposals for change.  Democrats will continue working this year to cut spending and bring down the deficit.”
