WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Chairman Ike Skelton and Ranking Member Howard “Buck” McKeon introduced the IMPROVE Acquisition Act:

“Fiscal responsibility is a top priority of this Democratic Congress, and a bipartisan group of Members unveiled a measure today, the IMPROVE Acquisition Act, that will build on our efforts to return our nation to a sustainable fiscal path.  I want to commend Chairman Skelton and Ranking Member McKeon for their work on defense acquisition spending reform, which the Defense Acquisition reform panel, led by Reps. Rob Andrews and Mike Conaway, has been reviewing for the past year.  They have put together a balanced approach that will ensure that our troops have the equipment they need to stay safe and accomplish their mission, while saving taxpayers billions of dollars.  Last year, we enacted the Weapon Systems Acquisition Reform Act as a first step in reforming the defense acquisition system; the IMPROVE Acquisition Act will go even further and implement reforms in other areas that were not covered by last year’s bill. ”
