WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after President Obama's meeting with his Export Council:

"I agree with the President that we must do more to help U.S. businesses increase exports and be more competitive in a global marketplace. The more goods they sell around the world, the more opportunities there will be to hire workers here at home to manufacture those goods.  In 2010, the President set a goal of doubling exports over the next five years, and we’ve made significant progress.  Yesterday’s new appointments to the President’s Export Council is another important step taken by the Administration to reach that goal and help U.S. businesses sell more goods and services made in the U.S. to markets here and overseas.

"Promoting exports remains one of the four central components of House Democrats' Make It In America plan for jobs and competitiveness, along with pursuing a national manufacturing strategy, encouraging the return of jobs and innovation to our shores, and securing a twenty-first century workforce.  House Democrats will continue to work with the Administration and with other stakeholders to help our businesses access new markets and to move Make It In America legislation forward in Congress."
