WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today, the 16th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks:

“As we gather in communities across our country to remember the tragedy of September 11, 2001, we recall both painful loss and uplifting acts of heroism.  The September 11 attacks – and subsequent acts of terror – showed all of us that nothing can be taken for granted; that our security and prosperity depend on maintaining a careful watch against threats from overseas and from radicalized individuals at home.  We give thanks every day for the courageous men and women of our Armed Forces and those who serve our nation as diplomats, and, on this day in particular, we thank those who put their lives on the line as first responders.  As we mourn the anniversary of these horrific attacks, which claimed the lives of so many wives and husbands, sons and daughters, grandchildren and grandparents, neighbors, and friends, let us find strength in our resolve to keep their memory alive and be inspired by it to build a safer, freer, and more just world.”
