WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Republican press conference on energy:

“Next week, the House will take up a comprehensive energy bill with an unprecedented commitment to drilling and investment in renewable energy.  Republicans will have to choose between a real solution that will lower gas prices and increase energy independence, or they can have a political slogan.  I am disappointed that Republicans are ignoring the grave threat Hurricane Ike poses to Texas and the Gulf Coast by playing partisan games, but next week they will have the opportunity to join with Democrats in siding with American taxpayers over the interests of the big oil companies.”
