Hoyer: Report on Economic Benefits of Health Care Reform Too Great to Ignore

WASHINGTON, DC- Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) issued the following statement on the release of a report today by President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisors: The Economic Case for Health Care Reform.

“The report released today by the Council of Economic Advisors underscores this key point: health care reform is an economic imperative that is essential to several aspects of our economic health and security.  Under our current system, costs are increasing at an unsustainable rate, squeezing workers, families, and businesses and consuming more of the Federal budget each year.

“This trend is concerning for a broad spectrum of Americans, including those who sought to block health reform in the past and are now working together with the President and Congress to enact a reform bill this year. As this report shows, the benefits of reforming health care are too great to delay action any longer.

“The goal set forth by President Obama and Congress to reform health care to contain costs and expand access to coverage is based on this economic reality. America is ready for the choice of quality, affordable health care, and we intend to deliver that this year.”
