Hoyer Marks President Obama’s First Hundred Days

WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) issued the following statement after President Obama’s prime time press conference marking the occasion of his 100th day in office:

“Tonight, President Obama laid out the challenges facing our nation when he took office, and what has been done to start addressing them.  These 100 days have been a strong and fast start, and the President has been a sure and steady leader.  He has worked with Congress to meet today’s issues, beginning with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to create jobs, and then taking steps to restore the flow of credit and help responsible Americans keep their homes.  We continued that work today by passing a budget that invests in our nation’s long-term growth, while also laying the groundwork to get our fiscal house in order.

“Under new leadership, our nation is moving in the right direction.  We have made significant progress, but as the President noted tonight, our work is far from over.  We will continue to make the changes that the American people called for last November: health care reform to improve access to affordable, quality care; energy legislation to end our dependence on foreign oil; and regulatory reform so that a financial crisis like the one we have today can never occur again.  I am confident that President Obama will make all the days of his Presidency as productive as these first 100.”
