WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today about Congressional Democrats' Innovation Agenda, which is beginning this week with three bills to be considered on the Floor:

"This week, Congressional Democrats are beginning to implement our Innovation Agenda with three bills that will work to encourage innovation, discovery, and economic growth.

"Under the leadership of Chairman Bart Gordon, the Science and Technology Committee is advancing Democrats' efforts to ensure that the U.S. remains a leader in technology and innovation.  The 10,000 Teachers, 10 Million Minds Act will increase the number of qualified science teachers.  The Sowing the Seeds Through Science and Engineering Research Act will provide support to young researchers, who are the source of some of the most innovative research today.

"Also on the Floor this week is the Small Business Lending Improvements Act, which will make capital more accessible for small businesses, which are often the best catalysts for technological innovation.

"In today's global economy, the need for investment is clear.  The United States must maintain our leadership in research and discovery for our economic and national security.  The bills considered by the House this week are just the first steps Congressional Democrats will take to spur economic growth and encourage innovation and the development of new technologies.  The Innovation Agenda is crucial in equipping America to compete in the global economy so that all Americans have an opportunity to achieve the American Dream."
