WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after the House Democratic leadership met with economic experts to discuss the economy and recovery efforts:

“As Democrats continue to focus on creating jobs and ensuring a strong economic recovery, today’s economic forum was an important opportunity to hear from experts about the state of the economy.  Today’s discussion centered on ways to keep saving and creating jobs as the economy eases out of recession.  Getting Americans back to work is our number one priority, and we will review our options and take action to achieve that goal.  We also need to look at further action to deal with the foreclosure crisis that is still dragging down our economy and the financial system.

“At the same time, there is great concern about the deficits facing our nation.  Once we get our economy back on track and are steadily creating jobs, we must do everything we can to be fiscally responsible and bring down the deficit.”
