WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the bipartisan, bicameral DISCLOSE Act, introduced in the House today by Reps. Chris Van Hollen, Robert Brady, Mike Castle, and Walter Jones, which responds to the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United v. FEC:

“The DISCLOSE Act is critical to restore transparency and accountability to campaigns after the Supreme Court’s decision opened the floodgates for corporate money to drown out the voices of individual Americans.  This bill will require heads of corporations to stand by their ads so that the public knows who funded them.  It will prevent foreign companies from making campaign contributions, as well as bar companies from spending taxpayer money on campaigns.  This bill is bipartisan, and I hope more Republicans will join Democrats in supporting transparency and accountability in political campaigns when it comes to the House Floor for a vote.”
