WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House Rules Committee posted the final health insurance reform legislation online for the promised 72-hour review:

“Today, House Democrats posted the final health insurance reform legislation online. After the promised 72 hours for public review, the House will vote on reform as soon as Sunday. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office also released preliminary findings on the bill, which make clear just how much money it will save American taxpayers. The legislation will reduce the deficit by $138 billion over the first ten years, and by more than $1 trillion in the second ten years—the largest deficit reduction since the deficit reduction plans signed by President Clinton in the 1990s.

“After thousands of hours of debate over more than a year, these facts are beyond dispute: that passing reform will lower health care costs for families and small businesses; put the decision-making power in the hands of patients, not the insurance companies; and take significant steps to bring our budget out of the red.”
