WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the announcement that President Obama is being awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize:

“It is a great honor to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and I want to extend my congratulations to President Obama.  The President has committed our nation to a course of renewed diplomacy and engagement across the globe, noting that the challenges we face can only be met when the world acts together.  As the President said today, this award is a ‘call to action’ to continue working with our allies to address the issues of our day.  This award does not mark the end of a legacy; rather, it marks support for a new vision of American leadership.”
